Prism ("we," "us," "our") is a coding education platform designed for young learners aged 10-18. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, and protect information when you use Prism.
1. Information We Collect
1.1 Account Information
When you sign in with Google, we receive your name, email address, and profile picture from Google. We do not receive or store your Google password.
1.2 Learning Progress
We collect information about your learning activity, including:
- Lessons completed and scores (stars) earned
- Time spent on lessons
- Code written in exercises (stored locally on your device and optionally synced)
- Unit and phase completion status
1.3 AI Interactions
When you use AI-powered features (prompt exercises, challenges), your prompts are sent to OpenAI for processing. We do not permanently store the content of AI conversations. OpenAI processes these requests under their API data usage policy, which states that API inputs and outputs are not used to train their models.
1.4 Automatically Collected Information
We do not use tracking cookies, analytics services, or advertising pixels. The only cookies used are essential session cookies required for authentication.
2. How We Use Information
We use the information we collect to:
- Provide and maintain the learning platform
- Track and display your learning progress
- Authenticate your identity and protect your account
- Process AI-powered educational exercises
- Improve the educational content and platform experience
3. Information We Do NOT Collect or Share
- We do not sell personal information to third parties
- We do not use personal information for advertising
- We do not share personal information with data brokers
- We do not collect precise location data
- We do not use analytics or tracking services
- We do not allow third-party advertising on the platform
4. Children's Privacy (COPPA Compliance)
Prism is designed for users aged 10-18. We are committed to protecting children's privacy in accordance with the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA) and similar regulations:
- We collect only the minimum information necessary for the educational service to function.
- We do not condition participation on the disclosure of more personal information than is reasonably necessary.
- Parents/guardians may review their child's information, request deletion, or refuse further collection by contacting us at create@poprism.com.
- Learning progress is stored locally on the device by default. Cloud sync is optional and requires authentication.
5. Data Storage & Security
- Learning progress is primarily stored in your browser's local storage, which means it stays on your device.
- If you sign in, progress may be synced to our secure database for backup purposes.
- All data transmission uses HTTPS encryption.
- We use industry-standard security measures to protect data stored on our servers.
- Code execution happens entirely in your browser — user code is never sent to our servers unless using AI-powered features.
6. Third-Party Services
Prism uses the following third-party services:
- Google OAuth — For authentication only. We receive your name, email, and profile picture. Google's privacy policy applies to data Google collects.
- OpenAI API — For AI-powered educational exercises. Prompts are processed under OpenAI's API data usage policy (not used for model training).
7. Your Rights
You (or your parent/guardian) have the right to:
- Access the personal information we hold about you
- Request correction of inaccurate information
- Request deletion of your account and associated data
- Opt out of optional data collection (cloud sync)
- Export your learning progress data

8. Data Retention
We retain account and progress data for as long as your account is active. You may request deletion at any time. Upon account deletion, we will remove all personal information within 30 days. Anonymized, aggregated usage statistics may be retained for platform improvement.
9. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify users of significant changes by displaying a notice on the platform. Continued use of Prism after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
